GHD Ceramic Straighteners

GHD Ceramic Straighteners – Which is best for your hair?
The GHD brand of hair products can be considered 'cool' by most. Normally the preserve of professional salons Hollywood stars, GHD actually originated in the UK.
There are 3 main types of straightener in the GHD range. The main differences are the size of the plates, which vary in width depending on the length of the hair.
The mini styler has a ½ inch plate suitable for short hair. Next, and suitable for styling medium length hair is the original styler. With a plate width of 1 inch, this is the popular choice for many. Finally the salon styler, with a plate width of 2 inches is generally used for long, thick hair.
In 2004 GHD launched a version of their original hair straightener in pink. This was to support the breakthrough breast cancer charity, of which GHD donated £10 per iron sale.
GHD ceramic irons are designed to be kind when applying heat to hair. Constant straightening and styling can take its toll, damaging and removing moisture. The straighteners use infrared technology, utilising negative ions. This helps to keep essential moisture in the hair. Many of the cheaper brands use copper wound elements that can cause damage or unnecessary dryness.
To complement their ceramic straightening irons, GHD have developed iron oil containing natural lubricants to smooth the hair shaft. Iron oil is actually a non-oil formula, which has the benefits of a serum and doesn’t make the hair feel greasy. The product contains thermal protecting properties, actually reflecting heat rather than absorbing it.
Although known mainly for hair straighteners the company also has also developed a number of other styling and hair care products. Many are designed to work specifically with heat treated hair and the range is added to regularly to keep pace with an ever changing market.
GHD can’t be found on the high streets either. The brand is exclusively marketed and promoted through professional salons. The company did, however, attract a lot of attention in the press in 2004. Sales were undoubtedly boosted by TV appearances in ‘The Salon’ and popular magazines, such as Esquire, Vogue, Harpers and Marie Claire.
GHD were established in 2000 and are distributed by Urban Icon. Urban Icon are based in Ilkley, Derbyshire, UK.
